Hollywood Sees Chile as a Filming Partner

The event took place in the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. The Shoot in Chile private cocktail event gathered entertainment industry personalities, as well as importan executives from Sony Pictures, NBC, Universal Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. As Chilean ambassadors Cristian de la Fuente (actor), Santiago Cabrera (actor), Nicolás López (filmmaker), Univision anchor Francisco Pinto and entreprenuer José Luis Nazar were present.

More than 70 people attended the event in which ProChile was able to promote Chilean locations for production projects. As Viviana Araneda, Trade Commissioner of Chile in Los Angeles explained: "Chile has a big potential, a secure work environment, human resources with technical skills, all this added to beautiful and diverse locations and sceneries unique in the world. This is exactly why we have to be able to provide all the help foreign productions need to have their projects done in Chile. As an example Fox is interested in executing a production project in Chile and this is something we shouldn't let go, even if it means to adopt new regulations to promote more productions to go to Chile and in that way promote all the related services".

The invitees were very impressed with the recent productions taken place in Chile like Quantum of Solace and Motorcycle Diaries also several German productions. Also they were able to enjoy short videos with Chilean imagery and reels from Chilean companies such as Chilefilms.

Mr. Patricio Parraguez, Manager of Turism and Locations in ProChile Santiago said: "this event allowed us to show all the advantages of shooting in Chile, specially what we have to offer to Hollywood productions".

This event is also related to ProChile being present in the Locations Trade Show which takes place every year in Santa Monica California. In this show all the Film Commissions gather in order to show the advantages of filming in their respective countries. This trade show represents a great opportunity to present Chile to an specialized audience.

Food exports in 2008 reached US$ 12,000 million, almost doubling the total achieved in 2007.

The Chilean economy is the 30th most dynamic of the world thanks to its sustained growth between 1990 and 2008 (IMF).

Chile is the safest country in Latin America according to The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Peace Index 2008.

Chile’s positioning as a highly attractive destination for foreign investment is mainly due to its political, legal and economic stability, its high level of connectivity, and the extensive network of international agreements signed by the country.

Worldwide 9,800,000 people drink daily a glass of Chilean wine.

Chile is the country with best business environment in Latin America (The Economist Intelligence Unit, 2009).

Chile is the main exporter of fresh fruits in the Southern Hemisphere, completing 50% of total shipments in the region.

The Global Competitiveness Index 2008-2009 published by the World Economic Forum in October 2008, ranked Chile 28th out of 134 economies and is the leader in Latin America.
