Gastronomic Week

ProChile’s Commercial Office in Washington D.C., organized a Gastronomic Week at Ceiba restaurant, which is known for its Latin American influence in Washington D.C. Chef of the Year 2007, Matias Palomo, awarded by the circle of the Chilean culinary chroniclers, traveled directly from Santiago, in order to contribute his knowledge and culinary experience. This event consists of several activities:

  • On June 6, a Cooking Class was organized, which was led by Chef Palomo. The activity involved a group of 30 people, who delighted the preparations, styles, domestic ingredients and innovations, through the various dishes that were tasted. In parallel, the sommelier of the Ceiba restaurant, gave an overview of the Chilean wine history and as the participants adventured in the intriguing aromas and flavors, also had the opportunity to get acquainted and learn about the different varietals that were served with each dish. The menu prepared during this activity, was the same that would be prepared during the Gastronomic Week.
  • The next day, Chef Palomo participated in a radio broadcast program called “Dishing it Out”, on Federal News Radio (WFED, 1500 AM and 820 AM), where the panelists talked about the Gastronomic Week, Palomo’s dishes and styles, domestic products such as “merquén”, avocado oil and olive oil, which were going to be used to prepare the menu and about Chile’s culture.
  • During the Gastronomic week, the Ambassador of Chile in Washington DC, José Goñi tasted the dishes prepared by Chef Palomo with, special guest Mario Kreutzberger. An editor of the Washington Hispanic newspaper was also invited to taste the Chilean menu, who latter on published an article on the gastronomic week, its menu, chef Palomo, his preparations, the national products and the country, Chile.
